February 4th 2019, marked ten years since Jack and I first started dating so I thought I would share our Engagement Story with you all. I must say when Jack proposed it was completely out of the blue for me, we had always talked about the future, what we wanted to achieve and the direction we both wanted to head in; for as long as I can remember Jack and I have always been on the same page about most things. We both met when we were teenagers, I was sixteen and in college studying Art & Design and Jack was seventeen just passed his driving test and in his first year of his Electronics Apprenticeship.
Saying this, on some level I should of known it was coming. Jack had asked a few months previous if he could plan our anniversary. I didn’t think much of it; I just thought it was sweet of him that he wanted to plan something for us, especially as he knew just how much celebrating birthdays, anniversaries and Christmas meant to me. I always thought we were heading in this direction but I didn’t for a moment think that on our fifth anniversary that he was about to “pop the question”.
I must say the whole day was magical and sweet, he had thought of the perfect way to ask and even five years later wearing not only my engagement ring but also my wedding ring I reminisce about the day Jack asked me to become his wife. So here goes; we were at home, relaxed and enjoying breakfast together, then Jack told me I should get ready to head out. No idea where we were heading I got ready and off we went.
A little confused at the direct we were heading, especially as we were heading to my parents previous address I queried where and what we were doing. Being given a shy smile Jack continued to drive before pulling up at the bottom of the road. Getting out of the car Jack asked me if I remembered where we had our first kiss, of course I did. It was in this exact spot. Jack pulled out a little blue box and handed it to me, “Happy Anniversary” he said.
I opened the box to see a bracelet sitting inside; it was the same bracelet he gave me on our first anniversary. This time it had a different engraving “Will you marry me?” I was so shocked in that moment, but before I knew it I blurted out “of course I will” followed by bursting into tears and hugging him.
A very non-traditional proposal but it was the most meaningful proposal and I knew Jack had put a lot of effort into finding a matching bracelet to get engraved alongside choosing a very sweet location to ask me. The rest of the day we spent ring shopping together, I must say walking into a jewellers and asking to try on engagement rings did give me butterflies. Overall, it was such a special experience choosing my engagement ring with Jack.
